Splash Pad Spray Ground at Bluebell Beach

Open May 25 - September 9, 2012

The Splash Pad:

• Uses fresh, not recycled, city water.
• Is the only free splash pad in Genesee County.
• Is a zero-depth, barrier-free surface.
• Features a patio area with picnic tables.
• Is adjacent to the playground.

When visiting the Splash Pad:

• Parents are required to monitor their children.
• Remember that the splash pad is for children under 12 years of age. Anyone over 12 must be there to accompany a child.
• Please observe the following: no running or water fighting. The use of squirt guns, water balloons, and buckets is not allowed.

Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission’s Bluebell Beach is home to the area's first Splash Pad Spray Ground. The new Splash Pad Spray Ground shoots water in a timed sequence from the ground, and also from various play structures on the Splash Pad. There is no charge to use the Splash Pad Spray Ground.

Entrances are on Coldwater Road at Center Road, and on Genesee Road south of Stanley Road. There is no wake speed limit on Mott Lake. The Genesee Belle Paddlewheel Riverboat operates every day on Mott Lake. Please remain at least 500 feet away from the Genesee Belle at all times.

The Visitor’s Center is open Wednesday - Sunday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm The grounds are open Wednesday - Sunday from 8:00 am - sunset. The grounds and building are closed on Monday and Tuesday. The Visitor’s Center will be open on December 24 and December 31, but will be closed on December 25 and January 1. The grounds will remain open Wednesday - Sunday, even on holidays.

For-Mar is a 383-acre nature preserve and arboretum with 7 miles of hiking trails. Jogging and biking are permitted on the gravel service drive only. Pets are not allowed. Cross-country skiing is permitted when the terrain is frozen and there is a 3-inch accumulation of snow. Please remember that snow accumulation on the ground is not an indicator of frozen terrain. For-Mar now also has a designated picnic area.

The Foote Bird Museum is open every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm There is a barrier-free, paved trail located next to the museum. There is no admission charge for the museum, grounds, or Visitor’s Center.

If there’s one thing in this world more uniquely satisfying than getting out onto a golf course, it’s getting out onto a golf course with a flying disc and tossing it around. At least that’s the way we prefer it at Goldenrod Disc Golf Course. It’s a full-size, 18-basket course where you’ll never need expensive clubs and little white balls to have a good time. Sure, disc golf (like life) may seem a little odd. But it’s also a lot of fun. Best of all, it’s just around the corner. At your Genesee County Parks.

What is Disc Golf?
It's played much like traditional golf, but instead of a club and ball, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee. The object is to complete each hole (basket) in the fewest number of strokes or throws.

Who plays Disc Golf?
Everyone!

The Hogbacks are located at the Genesee and Lapeer County line, and bordered by Elba, Washburn, McDowell, and Stanley roads.

Although there are no picnic facilities at this location, hiking, fishing, and picnicking are permitted in the Hogbacks Area.

Dog Training Activities
Activity: Dog field trials.
Designated area: Eastern portion of the Hogbacks.
Parking: Lapeer County, end of Coldwater Road.
Policy: Dogs may run off leash.
Dates: July 15 - April 15.

Dog Training Area Policy
The Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission permits dog training in the eastern portion of the Hogbacks Area, within an area that includes about 1,100 acres. The area is bordered by the Genesee County Parks’ property line near Stanley Road, and extends to the area around the chain of three ponds.

Training is allowed from July 15 through April 15, from 8:00 am - sunset, in conjunction with the State of Michigan’s hunting and trapping guide regulations, and in accordance with the following rules:

1. Vehicles may park in the designated parking area on the Lapeer County end of Coldwater Road, or where otherwise permitted. Parking is prohibited within the Hogbacks Area.

2. Dogs must remain on a leash that is no longer than six feet from the parking area, to 200 feet within the Hogbacks (measured from the cul-de-sac at the Lapeer County end of Coldwater Road, and as indicated by signage on site).

3. Visitors should be aware that this is a multi-use area. Trails in this park have limited visibility, so users should watch for oncoming or intersecting user traffic at all times.

4. ORVs or other motorized vehicles are not permitted in Hogbacks.

5. Hunting is prohibited.

6. Organized field trial events require a Special Event Permit. Special Event Permit applications are through the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission at 810.736.7100.

Mounds permits are valid for the calendar year, January 1 - December 31.

Use of the Mounds requires the purchase of a State of Michigan ORV sticker, which can be purchased at any store that sells hunting and fishing licenses. The current price is $16.25 and a Mounds ORV pass.

All State of Michigan laws and Genesee County Parks rules and regulations related to the operation of off-road vehicles will be enforced.

The following rules also apply in the Mounds ORV Park:

1. You must wear a helmet and eye protection.
2. Your ORV must have a USFS (United States Forest Service) approved spark arrester.
3. Your vehicle must not exceed Michigan’s sound level standards.
4. Your vehicle must have a valid State of Michigan ORV license permanently attached and visibly displayed.
5. Children under 16 years of age must present their Michigan ORV safety certificate and have adult supervision.
6. Snowmobiles are prohibited.

Considered an expert snow sledding hill compared to Genesee County Parks’ other snow sledding hills, like Davison and Linden, Toboggan Hill’s long rolling hillside has all the thrills of a rollercoaster ride.

Located on the shores of Holloway Reservoir, Walleye Pike is home to some great pan fishing. There are seasonal boat launch fees, and fees vary depending on age and residency. Come prepared to catch walleye, bluegill, bass, pumpkin seed, and perch. After a long day of fishing you can sit, relax, and enjoy a picnic as tables and grills are available at no charge.

Enjoy fine camping opportunities and a wide range of outdoor activities at Wolverine Campground. Scheduled weekend programs and activities add to the camping experience for both adults and children.

Campground rates range from $12.00 to $24.00, depending on the selected campsite. Weekly, monthly, and senior citizen discounts are available. Walk-in registration is offered from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on a space-available basis during operating dates. Advance reservations may be made online at anytime or through our Administrative Headquarters Office  Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. The $5 non-refundable reservation fee and all camping fees must be paid in full at the time an advance reservation is made. Reservation cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the 3:00 pm check-in time for a refund.

The purchase of a boat launch sticker is required for use of watercraft at Wolverine Campground. Season or daily passes that show the number of days campers are staying at their site are required.

Wolverine Campground is located in the Holloway Reservoir Regional Park at G-7698 N. Baxter Road. Phone 810.793.6613 during the season. Take I-75 to the Mt. Morris Road exit. East on Mt. Morris Road, 14.5 miles to Baxter Road, south on Baxter to campground. OR take M-15, 7.75 miles north of I-69 to Mt. Morris Road. Go east 2.5 miles to Baxter Road, turn right. One vehicle per site is included with each reservation. Registering an additional vehicle requires a $3.75 per day vehicle fee.

No monthly reservations for lakefront sites.
